How to Build a Smaller, Better Shoe Closet

How to Build a Smaller, Better Shoe Closet

Most of us own twenty two pairs of shoes and wear four. You know the four. Everything else was a good idea at the time. It was either a sale, a trend, a trip that seemed to need its own sandal and now it just sits there, taking up space you could use for something you actually reach for.

A smaller closet isn't about willpower. It's about being honest with yourself. Pull everything out. Line it up. Anything you haven't worn since last year isn't part of your rotation -  it's inventory, and it can probably go.

From there, look for the one pair that can carry an entire ordinary day without your feet complaining. Build around that. Everything else is there for the exception, not the everyday.

And when you do buy, buy new shoes like it matters. Fewer purchases, better materials, things made slowly instead of quickly. That's the only way a smaller closet stays small, which also makes your mind feel more at ease.

If you could only keep five pairs, which five would they be? That's your closet. Everything else is just visiting.

We make one sandal, slowly, on purpose - built to be the one pair that does most of the work during the warmer months.
